WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after learning that Iran captured and released 10 U.S. sailors and two U.S. Navy vessels.

“The recent incident with our U.S. Navy and IRGC is fraught with unanswered questions. It’s clear the President's desire for a deal with Iran is so absolute that he would do anything to ensure that the deal is completed. The Obama Administration actually believes that the surrender of U.S. sailors is a victory and a sign that the Iran deal is working. Conveniently, he didn’t mention this ‘accomplishment’  in his State of the Union address. Instead, the White House has been downplaying the incident, claiming that there was no hostile intent and that the Americans were treated well, until Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps posted photos of the sailors with blindfolds on, and kneeling on decks with their hands behind their head.

“During the hostage detainment, the IRGC likely interrogated our servicemen and inspected our military technology on the boat for intelligence.

“I plan to send a letter to the Secretary of Navy asking for the full story, including how the Iran nuclear deal has changed our military’s engagement with Iran. The President should be apologizing to the American people, not Iranians, for what happened in the Persian Gulf this week.”
