Fleming Earns Club for Growth Economic Freedom Award


Washington, D.C., Feb 29, 2012 -

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. (LA-4) has received the Club for Growth’s annual Defender of Economic Freedom award. The award honors Members of Congress who have a strong, consistent voting record on economic growth issues.

Club for Growth publishes an annual scorecardthat measures the legislative actions of Members in matters of pro-growth legislative policy, including:

·       Lower marginal income tax rates

·       Cutting and limiting government spending

·       Death Tax repeal

·       Expandingfree trade

·       Legal reform to end abusive lawsuits

·       Replacingthe current tax code

·       School choice

·       Regulatory reform and deregulation

·       Reform entitlements to increase economic freedom and ensure that long-term federalspending is financially sustainable.

“With his score of 97, and a lifetime score of 96, Congressman Fleming has demonstrated that he is truly a defender of economic freedom,” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “The Club for Growth values Members of Congress who vote based on principle for pro-growth policies that will restore America.”

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small businessowner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
