Congressman John Fleming, M.D. (LA-4) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s so-called accommodation of his mandate which continues to violate religious freedom:

“Only President Obama would think mandating free contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs should trump religious freedom. Now he wants us to believe that his latest nuance is an accommodation to the First Amendment. It is not.

“This is not a compromise. How do you compromise religious freedom? How do you promote abortion while claiming to not promote abortion? The president’s actions on this issue have appeared politically irrational, until you see that he’s forcing the insurance companies to be a vehicle for conducting his socialist policies and beliefs. This is why Obamacare is so dangerous and must be pulled out by the roots.

 “President Obama is governing by coercion. He’s trampling the Constitution and l will fight to pass legislation that promptly reverses this rule and restores the religious freedom that our Founders intended and that the American people cherish.”

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small businessowner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
