Congressman John Fleming, M.D., (LA-4) released the following statement after voting today against a $1 trillion spending bill.

“House Republicans have made progress this year in trying to reverse the tide of out-of-control spending by Democrats and President Obama that pushed our national debt past $15 trillion. Unfortunately, today’s measure did not go far enough. The final numbers were $24 billion higher than those proposed in the Ryan budget resolution that was passed by the House in April. In addition, today’s bill left out an important pro-life provision that would have protected health care providers from being forced by the government to provide abortions, and it left out many riders that would have blocked new job-destroying EPA regulations.”

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
