Fleming, Boren Introduce Legislation to Protect Conscience Rights of Health Care Providers
Today, Congressman John Fleming, M.D. (R-LA) and Congressman Dan Boren (D-OK) introduced H.R. 361, the “Abortion Non-Discrimination Act of 2011,” bi-partisan legislation which protects health care providers from being forced by government to provide abortions.
“As a father and family physician for over 30 years, I’ve witnessed the miracle of life firsthand and have had the privilege of delivering hundreds of babies,” said Fleming. “I strongly believe that every human life at any stage is unique and fully deserving of my protection as a physician.”
“Our health care professionals should never be subjected to discrimination because of their decision not to participate in abortion on the basis of their deeply held moral or religious beliefs,” continued Fleming. “H.R. 361 will ensure health providers are afforded these important protections.”
“I’m honored to join Congressman Fleming in co-sponsorship of this legislation to help protect health care professionals from being forced to administer a procedure that they are personally opposed to,” Boren said.
